How do I restrict medication supply?

Modified on Wed, 24 Jun at 2:52 PM

There are scenarios where it is not safe to keep prescribing medication and access to medication should be restricted. For example, a patient on Methotrexate who does not attend monitoring should not continue to receive monthly prescriptions. For their safety, access should be restricted until the monitoring is up-to-date.

Our prescribing module has scenarios where this may be recommended and tools to support restricting supply, informing the patient, and documenting within the records.

We have 5 videos in this series that will take you through the process our system follows.

Part 1 Supply Restriction: Introduction

This video gives a brief overview of a patient journey on why you would use our Supply restriction system.

Part 2 Supply Restriction: Restricting Supply

This video explains what happens if the patient is overdue for monitoring and has requested their medication.

Part 3 Supply Restriction: Directing to Prescriber review

This video goes through if you are asking the patient to have a review by a prescriber from an admin point of view.

Part 4 Supply Restriction: Prescriber Review

This video explains how the prescriber actions tasks sent to them to review the patient. This also goes through the Prescribing: Supply Restrictions template

Part 5 Supply Restriction: Removing Restriction

This video shows what happens once a patient has attended for the review and makes sure the restriction is removed.
