Speeding up SystmOne

We've received feedback from several of you about our systems slowing down SystmOne. Some of this is to be expected due to the high level of automation and complexity within our systems. However, we've done some testing and identified some changes that we can make to speed things up. We've made a start on this and hope it will make a noticeable difference.

A while ago I did a video on things you can do in your units to speed up SystmOne - https://youtu.be/dX5HQNpo61Y. If you haven't already, we'd recommend taking the steps in this video.

Further testing has shown that record retrieval can be sped up by archiving pathology results. This can be done in bulk and appears to be an increased issue with the pathology auto review rules as it doesn't appear to auto-archive tests. For individuals filing, you can set results to auto-archive. We wouldn't recommend this if you use "Filed Pathology / Radiology Search" to action results. Other Updates

  • Coding issue - we've come across an issue with requesting a H Pylori stool sample on the request test template. We've fixed it but if you use this part of the system, there are a few steps to take to replace an incorrect code that was added by the template. More info available here - Coding Issue with H Pylori Requests :

  • Timing of invites - if you're struggling for blood test capacity, and finding that patients needing high risk medication should be invited sooner, we've got a new feature you may find helpful. We're trialling an option which will put patients in reports 4 weeks before they're due for 3 monthly bloods, rather than 2 weeks. Let us know if you'd like to give it a try and be included.

  • Diabetes Follow up - we've added info to patients and in staff prompts, to make sure patient has had a recent HbA1c so patients who've been configured to have a follow up in 6 months, should have a HbA1c before they're seen.

  • Contraception Requests - we've created a protocol to manage requests for contraceptive pills - Contraception Protocol for patient requests :

  • Medications requiring monitoring following initiation / change - this seems to be working well.

    • We've now factored this into our medication monitoring checks. e.g. if you started a patient on an ACE, requested a UE on the pop up, it will check that this has been done when the ACE is next issued.
    • We've added the ability to cancel this medication monitoring, e.g. if the patient doesn't tolerate the medication. On the manage recall page, the "Cancel One-Off Requests" button now gives options to cancel this specific medication monitoring.

As always…
