We’ve identified an issue with our PSA filing guidance protocol for patients who have had a radical prostatectomy.
The filing guidance auto-pops up when a PSA is reviewed and is used by admin staff in a few practices. The guidance sets a target PSA of 0.1 for a patient who’s had a radical prostatectomy unless a patient specific target has been coded. What the protocol wasn’t doing was comparing the actual result with this target. As a result, it may have displayed a message like this even when the PSA was above 0.1:

We strongly recommend running and reviewing the patients in this report:

- You may want to use the report output “WI – Review PSA” to display the last 3 PSAs and when patients had a radical prostatectomy
- The report will also include any patients who’s latest PSA since their radical prostatectomy is >0.1 and was filed with no action. The filing may or may not have been affected by our filing guidance protocol.
- Patients can be removed from the report by reviewing them using the PSA template
Numbers are likely be very low but obviously it’s very important that these patients are reviewed urgently.
Please accept our apologies and let us know if any patients are affected.
