May 2026 Problems Running Invites - Steps We Are Taking

Modified on Tue, 12 May at 11:08 AM

You may have encountered problems running Annual Review invites on Tuesday this week.

On Tuesday morning, we received a call from TPP to flag that our Annual Review invite reports were causing issues on their server. The combination of their complexity and the number of practices running them was having a significant impact. TPP planned to block them from being ran for a couple of hours on Tuesday. We took some immediate steps to improve report efficiency without compromising on quality, and have carried out more work on them over the last few days.

They’ve been running again as usual, but it's obviously far from ideal if the invite reports aren’t available when they’re needed! The developments we made at the end of March increased the complexity of the reports, and more practices are now using them, as many have joined us over the last few months and are now using them for Annual Review invites. We suspect that Tuesday, coming after a bank holiday, also increased the number of practices running them simultaneously.

Further steps we’re taking…

  • We’ve reached out to TPP to better understand the issue and see what we can do
  • We’ve identified some further localisations we think can be retired. There are two that we’ve used in the past to support practices migrating to our system:
    • Choosing to account for invites sent in the last 3m of the previous QOF year
    • Accounting for disease specific invite codes

The practices with these enabled have all been on our system some time now so we don’t believe these are needed. We plan to remove these with our maintenance update next Wednesday.

  • We’re going to continue to look at improving efficiency of our system and this will be a more significant part of future design and development

One small request to you all – if any of you use batch reports to run the AR invites, could you make sure these are set to run only on a weekly basis, i.e. on the day you’d normally send them? I know some practices set them to run daily but it turns out this can cause wider issues!

We appreciate your understanding with this issue. I’ll be emailing again next week to inform you of changes we’re releasing next week.
