There are a number of occasions where it may be necessary to code pathology results in a patient record:
- When a hospital letter informs us of result
- When a result is visible on a pathology system (e.g. ICE/WebV) but can't be downloaded
- When labs don't code a result (if this is a frequent issue, we'd recommend contacting your lab to ask them to code results)
Our Recall System relies on result codes to identify patients who need to attend for monitoring invites. Where possible, it also looks for numeric results. This has the advantage of ignoring haemolysed samples, which effectively mean the test is still due.
To aid coding of results, we've developed a very simple template imaginatively named "Code Results". It's available on the sidebar of all our templates here:
The template looks like this:
It displays the bloods that are currently due on the left. On the right are essential numerics that our system looks for, with the ability to back-date to when the blood test was taken.
The "Other" page is for samples:
If there are numerics you can't find on there, you can use the "Record Numeric Readings" button on the sidebar:
If there are results you need to code regularly that aren't already on the template, let us know and we can add them on.
