Some patients have a Haemolytic Disorder, which mean labs can't process HbA1c tests for them. Patients with a Haemolytic Disorder, or with a Haemoglobin Variant which may lead to a Haemolytic Disorder, should have a Fructosamine or Fasting Glucose blood test as an alternative to an HbA1c test. If patients are coded in this way, the system will request the appropriate alternative.
How do I identify patients who need an alternative blood test?
The system will pick up many codes that indicate an alternative blood test is needed. You may some patient incidentally as labs send back HbA1c results that can't be calculated. There are also some case finding reports available to identify patients with Haemoglobin Variants that have not already been coded.

How do I record that a patient needs an alternative test?
The is a check-box on the Manage Recall template to record that a patient has a Haemolytic Disorder and needs an alternative test.
