Good to see many of you a couple of weeks ago at our webinar on supporting you all with CQC compliance. For those who missed it, this is a link to the recording – Preparing for CQC. Our next webinar will be on running your flu campaign, Wed 9 July at 1pm, sign up here – https://bit.ly/WelbyInnovateWebinar (flu feels like Christmas – start getting ready earlier every year!)
We're looking for registered clinicians who have a passion for evidence-based medicine and can contribute a few hours a week (reimbursed, of course) to join our Clinical Governance Committee (https://www.welbyinnovate.co.uk/clinical-governance-committee/). We meet weekly on a Thursday morning, although it may be possible to adjust the schedule. Please let me know if you’re interested.
Prescribing Updates
- SABA usage alert now also triggers if the patient has had 2 or more SABAs without ICS in the last 12 months. That’s in light of this MHRA alert - https://www.gov.uk/drug-safety-update/short-acting-beta-2-agonists-saba-salbutamol-and-terbutaline-reminder-of-the-risks-from-overuse-in-asthma-and-to-be-aware-of-changes-in-the-saba-prescribing-guidelines. It will advise sending a message to the patient to book an Asthma review to consider change in medication.
- New pages on Prescribing Overview to review DOACs, Contraception and HRT – we’ve created new dedicated pages for reviewing these medications. The views show more relevant information and options for outcomes are increased. We’re planning to develop more of these in time.
- GLP-1s – we’re working on a protocol to identify issues with private prescriptions that practices are informed about. There’s much discussion on the matter but the MDU have issued this advice - https://www.themdu.com/guidance-and-advice/latest-updates-and-advice/advice-on-disclosing-information-for-patients-weight-loss-medication
Recall
- Repeat blood tests that may have been missed – we’ve come across an issue: if a patient had a blood test, the result came back, and a repeat was requested on the Request One-Off test template, all on the same day, the repeat test wouldn’t be picked up. It's been quite a complicated issue to fix, but we have resolved it now, so these bloods are also included. It doesn’t look like many patients have been affected, but we’ve created reports to identify any that might have been and put them at the top of the folder “Monitored Requested Bloods” under Recall.
- We’ve developed a new folder of reports under Recall called “System Checks”. These are reports that run checks on the system to identify any potential issues. If you’re able to run them on your practice for us sometime (when you’re not about to use any other reports – they’re massive), that would be helpful. We’d want to know if you find any patients in them. Email us support@welbyinnovate.co,uk if you find any!
Pathology
- Home BPs – We’ve finally figured out a way to combine a questionnaire and a protocol that will automatically calculate the average home BP from individual readings supplied by the patient. We need to conduct further testing, but we hope to have this available later this month. It should save a significant amount of administrative time.
In more general news, we’re continuing to add extra information to protocols to make things clearer for staff and exploring steps to speed up SystmOne. As part of this work, we’re moving our status alerts to new folders that begin with WI rather than IHS, and where possible, reducing status alerts and moving them into views instead. This will change the appearance but not the content of some letters and templates.
As ever, please drop us an email (support@welbyinnovate.co.uk) and we’ll endeavour to give you any help you need ?
