July 2024 Updates
Asthma Control Questionnaires
Thanks for the helpful comments and feedback. We’ve now changed the questionnaire, and this is the new section about the inhaler technique:
Options and what happens…
- “I’ll book an appointment” – if protocol determines needs full asthma review anyway, it won’t make any difference. If everything looks fine, it will code asthma review, generate care plan and on the covering letter it will ask the patient to arrange an inhaler check. Its up to each practice what they do for that – could be a video consultation, could be 10 min appt with a nurse / HCA / Pharm technician. The recall overview will also display that an Inhaler Check needs to be completed.
- “I’ll check my inhaler technique with community pharmacist” – codes signposting to pharmacy, a note will be added to the record by the protocol but otherwise, no change to current process.
- “Confident & don’t want it reviewed” – codes “Declined to perform inhaler technique” and provision of written information. Otherwise, no change to current process. We’ve also published a shorter Asthma Control Questionnaire that can be sent to patients prior to their main review invite, see report “1f) SEND Comms Annex Preset "Pre-Invite - Asthma Control" - add code XaQig” If you would like, completion of this can mean that a short appointment is booked using free slot search “Asthma F/U”. There’s also a report to send this to patients who’ve already booked in for their review in the folder “3 Other” section 1. This won’t shorten any appointments but may save time going through these questions.
