We’ve come across some issues where patients have been sent the questionnaire about reviewing their statins and have got confused. They thought they were agreeing to a change of statin, and then weren’t happy when they had a dose increase. We also noticed a reduction in the number of patients agreeing to a change of statin since the questionnaire just said a dose increase.
We’ve now split this pathway in two:
- Those on Atorva or Rosuva who could have a dose increase are sent a simpler questionnaire which only offers a dose increase
- To send, patients now appear in this report for this preset - 4) SEND - Comms Annex Preset "Lipids - Statin Dose Increase" (A/S) - add code XaCmC ***NEW***
- To process those agreeing to a dose increase - *** PHARMACIST TO ACTION: Increase Statin Dose ***NEW***
- If they want to discuss, it goes into the same report as previously - *** PHARMACIST TO CALL: Re: Statin Change / Dose Increase
Hopefully these are a little quicker to process and cause fewer issues.
- Those on other statins, like Simva, Prava, etc will get the same questionnaire as before which asks for consent for the practice to review / change as appropriate. These patients appear in the same reports that were used previously
- It varies between practices but its likely at least 2/3rds of patients will be appropriate for the dose increase questionnaire
Tips to save time…
- If you haven’t already, would really recommend asking TPP to enable auto-reviewing for you and then we can get you using the rules we’ve created to bulk file all the lipids appropriately.
- Use this button when you’re starting someone on a statin -
It will add Atorva 20 to their repeats, add notes about why its been done and offer to inform the patient
